Did you know we Indians use spices and herbs for just about everything? We use them when we are happy – food, drinks, dyes, soaps, etc and when we are sad or sick – in our broths, elixirs and rubs. Fennels seeds to ease the belly, turmeric to patch up a wound or to dye a sari, clove oil to ward off mosquitos and add flavor to dal! I could go on and on! But the best reason to incorporate spices in your life is quite simple: because they taste SO good!

The hardest part about starting this blog is this: Where do I start? What I grew up with and take so for granted, the inherent knowledge of what spice goes where and with what and how much…so much to share and such little time! To keep things simple and fun, I am going to start featuring one spice at a time, go into it at length with all its properties…Let’s start with turmeric…
